No two days alike in the life of a homeschool teacher. All that I plan changes as the days roll on. I tend to leave a lot of room for change. Grace All Over It. This little spot, a simple way for me to track our attendance, curriculum and pace. I will post goals and accomplishments here all for my record keeping purposes. Feel free to pick through & see what we're doing.

April Week 1 Spring Break

For Spring break I've worked in the garden, done some home organization and played games with the boys. We also attended a few science sessions at the library, learning about sound waves, fossils and space.

Our challenge for the week was to see how many board & card games we could play. As of now we're up to 19. It's been a fun way to have a focus and challenge over the week.

tues-thursday

A new week, a week without CC classes. This was a delight, change for our family.

We worked through the story of Abraham up to Moses and Aaron. The stories of their lives, the promises God made to them and how He was always, always faithful. We also worked on memory verses.

We're reading through Paddle to the Sea by Holling C. Holling, mapping Paddle's journey.

We reviewed CC weeks for Cycle 1.

We reviewed Geo for Cycle 1.

Math: The boys are pressing forward in their lessons in Math

I skipped reading with Joe. Math was painful so I just had him read silently rather than working on grammar

Tuesday*Mom is getting a cold. :(

It's amazing. I've been homeschooling for about 4 years now and all along I've been waiting for days to resemble one another. Just one. predictable.day, I've been waiting for it. Well, it's finally, at long last happening. The days are predictable and we are starting to fall into a routine. Amazing. The boys are old enough, I guess. I know life will change, but this is a nice pace.

Bible
Luke 9:1-17 & Discussion
Scripture memory work

Math
Nate & Eli trudge through a few math worksheets, and I teach them Lesson #45 from the Saxon book. I don't have a workbook, but since my teachers guide shows the problems and answers I teach them on the board and we count money, look at the calendar and the clock. Easy Peasy.

Joe, on the other hand is not wanting to school today. He gets to head off to his room until he's ready to "work diligently." He knows it's expected and necessary, if unpleasant today. Math.

Presentations
Joe and Nate tell the Aesop's Fable they'll tell in class tomorrow. Eli struggles with it, doesn't want to tell the story. I wonder if it's too big a concept. I pull out googly eyes and look for popsicle sticks to make puppets, visual aids to help to tell the story. I can't find popsicle sticks so we'll find some in the backyard to hold our puppets. Nate & Eli choose the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf, we create our puppets and when all are finished I'll put on a puppet show to help give the boys ideas how to tell the story with their puppets tomorrow.

Joey comes back downstairs, gets a snack (maybe he didn't eat enough breakfast?) and declines puppet making but instead begins on Math, reading aloud to me his work while I fold laundry. I'm not listening too much unless he asks for help but reading aloud seems to do the trick today. He finished with little trouble.

Now the boys are on the trampoline, I feel crummy like I'm coming down with a cold. I have to prepare for tomorrow anyhow, so maybe we'll do easy reading, Joe can finish his final draft and I'll get a little nap in there before gymnastics at 4:00.

Lunch time.

*We've still been reading On the Banks of Plum Creek and I've been neglecting my copy of Story of the World. I'll pull that out today, maybe even read a little if I feel up to it.

Math
Joe Test #14- 100%
Nate Lesson 78 and adding 7's
Eli Lesson 1&2 & adding 5's

CC
Week 14 :)

Presentation Prep
This weeks' presentations are from Aesop's Fables. We must listen, then retell a story. We're listening at Story Nory and the boys will draw pictures to go along with their presentations.

Thinking I'm going to order 2 Saxon one workbooks and start nate and eli at the same place. I struggle with putting them at the same place, but it's where they can meet in the middle and I think I'll teach a full lesson (this season in Saxon is a mostly teaching) if I can teach them the same stuff. Then hopefully as they become stronger readers I can tailor their lessons moreso.

Langauge Arts
We took language arts to the library.
Eli~ a lesson from the 100 Easy ones
Nate~ He read 1/2 of Green Eggs and Ham
Joe~ Joe added his dress ups to his rough draft....tomorrow for the Final!!

Rootin' Tootin Tuesday

Today was a good school day. They usually are, but we've taken our time getting back in the groove with school after the Holidays.

Bible

Luke 8:16-21 The boys and I discussed what a lamp covered vs a lamp on a stand will do. Then, what does it mean to be a light to the world? To be a light? To be a reflection of Christ. Then they drew pictures of lights in the darkness.

Getting into Bible reading has been a long time in coming, but I've bumbled around at how to do it. I'm just doing a little reading and discussion of what we read. It's fast becoming the foundation of our little school and day. I hope it bleeds into the boys' little lives....

Then they prepared for scripture memory work. I'm amazed at what they learn. Joey wants to do Bible quizzing this year. See how that goes!

Math
Joey # 71
Nate works on +7's (challenging for him, think it's working alone that is hard)

Wednesday

Wednesday is our day for Classical Conversations.

Today held our usual memory work. In Art, we discusses Rembrandt and drew self portraits. The kids loved this assignment. I may just set them up to do it again this week sometime. In Science we did two experiments that showed the amplititude & frequency of sound vibrations. Very fun stuff!

On a side note, Eli took his hamster for presentations. He began to tell the tale of losing his other hamster (the dog got her) and all the kids were watching the hamster run on her wheel and laughing. He was a little sad the kids weren't listening but the sweet teacher picked up on it and helped him tell the story, tragedy.

In my class we played a geography game, race to find named locations on the map or globe. Nathan LOVED it, which was very unusual for Geo. He usually struggles with Geo and dislikes it as a result. He yelled out "we should do it like this every time!!"

I also have noticed that Joe seems to be a very visual learner. This was something I hadn't before observed, I guess that's the downside to being so close. Anyhow, this sheds light on how I'll be teaching in the future.

Monday

A new week, a new Year! This is our first day in the new school room! We are back to school and I'm remembering to ease into it. Just as important as getting back into academics is quick obedience and staying on task when your brother is getting instruction. This takes a little remembering for the boys.

For now our schedule goes like this:

7:00-9:00 Get Dressed, do chores (Mama sneaking back to bed with my coffee & Bible)
9:00 Bible & Scripture Memory Verse
9:30 Math
10:15 Snack & breathe time
10:30 Language Arts
11:30 Memory Work Review; Geography, History, Science, English, Latin, Math & World Time Line
Noon Lunch
12:30 Story of the World Reading
1:00 Finish up any unfinished work

For the rest of the day we'll play, go for a walk, run errands or clean house. This schedule varies each day, and there is Grace All Over It.

For Today:

Bible Luke 6: 24-36
Scripture Memory
Math Joey Lesson #68
Nate Warm up Addition (3 #) and Subtraction
Eli Warm up Addition
* I have ordered & am waiting on new Math curriculum!
L.A. Joey Task Sheets

Nate Bob Book & 100 EZ
We didn't take up our usual hour for LA. Joe will have a lot more work to do beginning Thursday after we go back to CC, and the younger boys will have more as well. We do a slow start today.
